“the luminescents overwhelmed us—they separated the men from the women— the men were forced to work to build these giant rotators which came to dominate the skyline—the women were violated in breeding experiments—we called these beasts the luminescents because they glowed—we had no viable response to their arrival—weapons were useless against them and any attempt by an individual to harm a luminescent was met with an horrific death—the injuries inflicted by their tentacles were always fatal—we thought there was no hope—until one summer evening, I found something on the beach that proved to be fatal to a luminescent—sand which contained a bioluminescent algae—I alone was able to kill dozens of these beasts and, as word spread and hundreds more died— they finally went back to where they came from and we thought it was all over—but history, if one is ever recorded after these events, will testify that the moment I picked up that sand was the beginning of the end of the world— for the luminescents were, in fact, the last and only remaining salvation from our fate and their vengeance for my actions knew no limit”
